Survival of the prawn Macrobrachium tenellum (Smith, 1871) in confinement with the native fish Dormitator latifrons (Richardson, 1844)

Objective: The aim of this study was to test the survival Macrobrachium tenellum in different confinement conditions with Dormitator latifrons.
 Design/methodology/approach: Using wild specimens acclimated captive both species, three trials proportion were performed treatments consisting presence/absence food and shelters. Prawn/fish for assays were: 15/15 T1, 15/3 T2 10/3 T3. In T1 juvenile prawns fish used, while T3 post-larvae pre-juvenile used. To or without fed, it schedule a four-day feeding ad libitum period, following by two-day fed depravation period all assays.
 Results: juveniles M. rate superior 80% shelter, when showed 97-100% survival; meanwhile presented 56.67 % survival, suggesting it’s necessary use only co-culture systems. shelters deprivation had no significant effects on prawns.
 Limitations study/implications: is an important aquatic resource central Mexican Pacific, region which D. latifrons representative native developing aquaculture. A polyculture system these species can accelerate sustainability productions.
 Findings/conclusions: results suggest may be feasible, longer duration culture are recommended.
